Ingredients

  • 1/2 Kg Squid/koonthal
  • Tsp Ginger paste
  • 1 Tsp Garlic paste
  • 2 Nos Green chilli (sliced)
  • 2 Nos Onion (sliced)
  • 2 Spring Curry Leaves
  • Tsp Lemon juice
  • 1/4 Cup Thinly sliced Coconut
  • 1 Tbsp Coriander powder
  • 3/4 Tbsp Chilli powder
  • 1 Tsp Garam masala
  • 1 Tsp Pepper powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Mustard seeds
  • 3 Tbsp Coconut oil
  • 3/4 Cup Water
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 Tsp Kashmiri chilli powder
  • 5-6 Nos Shallots (crushed)

Instructions

  • Wash and clean the Squid/Koonthal well. Cut it into small pieces and keep aside.
  • Heat 3 table spoon of cooking oil in a pan and put mustard seeds. Add thinly sliced coconut pieces and fry them for 2 minutes.
  • Add garlic paste, ginger paste, shallots crushed and green chillies (sliced). Stir for a few seconds and then add chopped onion. Saute the mixture adding a little salt.
  • When the ingredients turn golden brown, reduce the flame to low. Add coriander powder , chilli powder, kashmiri chilli powder, turmeric powder and garam masala . Stir for a minute.
  • Add water, lemon juice and salt to taste. Turn the heat to high and mix well. Now, add the Squid/Koonthal pieces. When it starts boiling, turn the heat to low and cook it covered till done 20 minutes, give stir in between. until the dish is almost dry.
  • Open the lid and Add black pepper powder and mix well.
  • Squid/Koonthal roast is ready for serving. Transfer the Kanava roast to the serving dish. Garnish it with curry leaves.
